Honouring Fallen Heroes: GOC’s call to action against insecurity, terrorism

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 1 Division Nigeria Army, Maj.-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, has called on serving officers and soldiers to remember the sacrifices of the fallen heroes to end insurgency and terrorism

Saraso, who is the Commander, Sector 1 Operation Fansan Yamma, made the call at the inauguration of projects at the 2 Battalion headquarters. held at Ribadu Cantonment on Wednesday in Kaduna.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the projects inaugurated included a newly constructed 2 Battalion Quater-Guard and accommodation, Cenotaph and 2 Battalion Mascot accommodation.

The GOC  emphasised that their memories should serve as a motivation to work harder and justify the purpose for which they laid down their lives.

He  urged the serving personnel to draw inspiration from the bravery and selflessness of their fallen comrades.

He stressed that their sacrifices would not be in vain, as they paved the way for the restoration of peace and progress in the nation.

Saraso  said the inauguration of the projects was in continuation of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

“This initiative of the Commanding Officer of the 2 Battalion would remain a legacy for a long time,” he said.

The GOC explained that the cenotaph , having the names and pictures of the gallant officers and soldiers from the unit who paid the supreme price with their lives from 2015 to date in the conduct of operations,  would be remembered for their gallantry.

He thanked President Bola Tinubu, the CDS, the Chief of Army Staff, Kaduna and other state governments within the 1 division’s area of responsibilities for their support.

Saraso said the support resulted from the relative achievements the division recorded particularly within 2024 to date.

He restated the division’s commitment to do more in 2025,  calling on the citizens and other stakeholders to continue to render their support to complement the division’s readiness in achieving more.

“Hopefully and by the grace of God, we want to put an end to this menace of terrorism and insurgency that has been bedeviling this environment particularly part of the North-Western states and the nation as a whole.

“This is our target and what we are going to work and hope to achieve in 2025, “he said.

Saraso called on the officers and soldiers that were still serving to remember the sacrifices of the fallen heroes.

According to him, this is to serve as a turning point for the need to work harder to justify the purpose for which they voluntarily laid down their lives to the restoration of peace and progress of the nation.

NAN  reports that the GOC donated cash and presented  gifts to the widows of the fallen heroes of the unit.
