Abia CP decorates 63 promoted officers, warns against unprofessionalism

The Commissioner of Police in Abia, Mr Danladi Isa, has warned newly-promoted officers against incivility and unprofessional conduct in their dealings with the public.

Isa issued the warning in Umuahia on Tuesday shortly after decorating 63 newly-promoted officers of the command.

He congratulated the officers on their promotion but warned that “the command will not condone any acts of unprofessional conduct towards members of the public”.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 16 Superintendents of Police were elevated to Chief Superintendents of Police and 11 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP) promoted to Superintendents of Police.

Also, 36 Assistant Superintendents of Police were promoted to DSP, including the command’s Spokesperson, Maureen Chinaka.

Isa said: “We want you to do your job as professionals and avoid all those things, such as extortion, unbridled corruption and others, that are capable of creating negative image for the police.

“Some of you are rude to civilians because you are privileged to be police officers, but you forgot that you came in as civilian and you will retire and go home as civilian.

“So, you must avoid incivility. Respect the people you are policing, because we are all servants of the people.”

The state police boss further admonished them to be conscious of the new responsibilities bestowed on them by their new ranks.

He said, “Now that you have been promoted, so much is expected of you in the area of your duties.”

Speaking in an interactive session with newsmen, Chinaka thanked God for her elevation, saying that it would be a great motivation to her.

“I will continue to uphold professionalism, double my effort to bridge the gap between the police and public, especially in the area of adequate education,” she said
