President General Global Peace Movement International, UK Dr Mike Uyi has called for increase in Nigerians military strength in terms of capacity, morden equipment, manpower and capabilities to deal with all forms of insecurity in the country.
Uyi in a statement on Thursday while reacting to the death of soldiers across the country by criminal elements said the strength of the military is not commensurate to the population, land mass and proximate volatile neighbors.
According to him, in military ranking in Africa, Nigeria is number four after Egypt, Algeria and South Africa.
“As a nation, we should know that the challenges we are passing through is more than that if South Africa, Algeria and Egypt but at the moment they are doing better than us in terms of military hardware and other modern equipment to combate insecurity”.
“It is time for us as a nation to invest more funding into our armed forces to be able to meet up with modern day way of fighting insurgency, banditry among other crimes in the country”.
Uyi also called on the attention of the Federal Government to improve on the remuneration of military personnel to meet up with the global standard practice.
He further urged Nigerians to continue to appreciate the military for their efforts and support them to success, adding that a whole-of-society effort is needed to address the prevailing security challenges across the country.
