The new Commissioner of Police, Lagos Command, Mr Olanrewaju Ishola, has assured residents of Badagry that the state and its towns would witness a drastic reduction in crime during his tenure.
Ishola made the promise when he paid a courtesy visit to Akran of Badagry, Aholu Menu Toyi 1 in his palace on Friday.
“I want to assure that all sorts of crime will reduce completely during my tenure in Lagos.
“Disturbing of public peace, robbery and disobedience to constituted authority will be brought down,” he said.
Ishola promised to also curb excesses exhibited by some police personnel in the state.
“I will ensure this will not happen during my time.
“We have started punishing officers who are caught in the acts.
“If we say Police are friends of the people, we are not joking, that is how it is supposed to be and that is how it will be,” he said.
Ishola said that he would be fair and firm to all citizens in the state.
He solicited the support of residents for timely information, while assuring of adequate protection of lives and property of all residents, except the criminal elements.
Speaking on behalf of Akran, Chief Tunde Giro, the Depegan of Badagry, commended the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Folajimi Agosile, for his prompt rescue exercises in Badagry.He urged the commissioner to provide another police vehicle for the station to ensure quick response to crime in Badagry.
The royal father urged Ishola to build more police posts in Badagry communities, noting that the present two were inadequate.
Also speaking, Aholu Abiodun Patinvoh, the Aholu of Yafin Kingdom in Badagry, commended the commissioner for visiting the palace of Akran.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the police commissioner was accompanied by AC Adeleke Smith, the Commander, Area K Command; the Divisional Police Officers in Seme and Badagry and other senior officers in the command.
NAN reports that Ishola, who assumed office on Sept.17, as the 40th Commissioner of Police at the Lagos State Command, joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1992.
He holds a BSc in Geography and an MSc in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Ibadan.
