The acting Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), in Adamawa, Mr Dada Ulea, has cautioned motorists against speeding and wrongful overtaking during rainy season.
Ulea who made the caution in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Yola, said that careful driving was necessary during the rainy season.
He said that speeding remained ‘very dangerous’ and capable of leading to serious crashes, especially during rainy seasons.
“The rains are here now, the roads will become slippery, so it is advisable to avoid speeding and wrongful overtaking.
“Drivers should ensure that vehicle tyres are good, the headlamps and wipers should be functional to ensure clear vision,” he said.
The FRSC official further urged motorists in the state to ensure regular serving of their vehicles to ensure optimal performance.
“when tyres are good, and the wipers and headlamps are functional, it becomes easy to see oncoming vehicles. Collisions too can be avoided.
“Drivers should always give a gap of about 10 meters between them and the vehicle in front for safety reasons,” he said.
Ulea said that FRSC was doing its best to sensitise the public on how to be safety conscious while using the roads.
“Let me tell you that our efforts are yielding results. Road crashes have reduced hugely in the state because we are committed to duty.
“Our response to emergencies and rescue operations is very swift. We don’t joke with distress calls from the public,” he said.
He urged transport unions and other stakeholders to collaborate with the corps to deepen the campaign against speeding and other indecent road attitudes being exhibited by road users.
