The 1 Division Nigerian Army Kaduna on Wednesday offered free medical services to 3000 residents of the Tudun Biri community in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), recalled on Dec. 3, 2023, an operational mishap of a drone attack led to loss of many lives in the community.
The General Officer Commanding(GOC), 1 Division Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen Mayirenso Saraso, reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment in enhancing the well-being of Nigerians.
He said, “The medical outreach programme is in commemoration of the Nigerian Army’s at 161st anniversary.”
Saraso explained that the programme was a shining example of the Army’s dedication to the health and well-being of citizens, as well as offering essential medical services.
He pointed out that the medical outreach was part of the military tradition designed to offer humanitarian services to host communities in order to further foster cordial relationships and co-operation.
The GOC disclosed that the Army has been providing security and other related services to the community since the operational mishap that led to the loss of many lives and property last December.
He assured the residents of the community of the Army’s resolve to further strengthen the already existing cordial relationship.
“We are deeply grateful for the overwhelming support and cooperation we have received from the residents of Tudun Biri, and it is only right that we give back to this community.
“Soldiers are not only trained for war purposes only but also,to offer humanitarian services such as this medical outreach, “Saraso said.
The GOC appreciated the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja’s support and that of the Kaduna State Government.
Also speaking, Kaduna State Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Umma Ahmed, expressed delight over the gesture, stressing that it had brought succour to the people.
The commissioner, who was represented by a Director, Mrs Naomi Kukah, urged the Army to extend the same gesture to other communities in subsequent events.
In a remark, Council Chairman of Igabi LGA, Alhaji Jabir Khamis advised the residents to adhere strictly to the medical instructions so as to safeguard their health.
The Village Head of Ifira, a Tudun Biri suburb, Malam Balarabe Garba, also appreciated the Nigerian Army for identifying with them and urged residents of the community to take advantage of the opportunity to receive treatment.
NAN reports that some of the services rendered included eye treatment, distribution of eye glasses, tests for blood pressure, hypertension, diabetes, dental therapy and provision of treated mosquito nets, among others.(
