Operate within stipulated time, Police warn tricycle, motorcycle operators in Ebonyi

The Ebonyi Police Command has warned tricycle and motorcycle operators in the state against operating beyond the stipulated time in order to improve security.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Aliyu Garba, gave the warning in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abakaliki.

Garba called on all residents of the state to strictly adhere to lawful orders, warning that violators would be prosecuted.

“The attention of the Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi Command, has been drawn to the deliberate/blatant refusal of some tricycle riders, popularly known as “Keke” and motorcycle operators in the state to strictly adhere to the state government law.

“The law has prohibited the operations of tricycles beyond 11 pm. and motorcycles beyond 7 pm,” the statement said.

While stating that the ban was to further improve the security of the state, Garba noted that most of the crimes being committed at night within the town were with the use of tricycles and motorcycles.

He, therefore, warned that henceforth, anyone caught engaging in the illegal act would be arrested and prosecuted.

“Mobile Courts have been set up at different locations in the state. Nobody is exempted, including security agents, except those on uniform (properly dressed),” Garba said.
