The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Abayomi Olonisakin, has called for the support of communities to the ongoing military operations in the North west aimed at clearing the zone of bandits and other criminals.
Olonisakin made the call on Thursday in Katsina at the inauguration of some community projects undertaken by the Defence Headquarters in some local government areas of Katsina State.
The CDS, represented by the acting General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Sokoto, Brig.-Gen. Aminu Bande, said that the projects were executed to support the basic infrastructure and welfare needs of the communities.
“In building these infrastructure for the locals, the Defence Headquarters has not only ameliorated the plight of the communities but also lived up to its Corporate Social Responsibility, for which the military is noted in its areas of core competence in civil military relations.
“The military will continue to do its bit not only in the area of supporting the civil populace in protecting lives and property, but also to improve the standard of their welfare.
“Let me also use this opportunity to call for the support of locals in our various operations to clear bandits and other criminal elements in Katsina state and indeed the entire Northwest zone.
“Everybody should be assured that the military will end this banditry with your support to its operations; now all hands are on deck to end this banditry soon,” he said.
